The KMTA Spring Festival will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Houston Community College--Spring Branch. Entrants must play two pieces from memory for a judge; a few students will be selected for the Honors Recital, which will occur on the same day at 7:30 pm. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and comments from the judge. Students earning a Superior or Excellent rating will receive a ribbon.

The KMTA Sonatina Festival will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Kingsland Baptist Church. Students play one movement of a sonata or sonatina from memory for a judge and are given a rating and written comments about their performance. Students interested in participating should discuss with Ms. Combs as soon as possible.
All entrants must pay the $12.00 entry fee no later than the first lesson in October. Students may request a morning (between 8:00 am and 11:30 am) or afternoon (between 1:00 and 4:00 pm) performance time. The Katy Music Teachers Association Christmas Recital will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2012, at Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church. Students may play one Christmas piece by memory. There is an entry fee of $8.00, which must be paid before the November 11 deadline. The recital is divided into three sessions, at 10 am, 11 am, and 12 noon. Please specify if you have a time preference; otherwise, the organizers will assign a performance time.
Students wishing to participate in this event should choose a piece with Ms. Combs during the first or second lesson in October. The Texas Music Association Theory Test is administered twice a year. The second date is tentatively set for February 1, 2014, at Kingsland Baptist Church. To participate, students must submit the $19.50 entry fee by December 1.
Success on the theory test requires consistent effort in completing written theory assignments. Medals are awarded for high scores as follows: Score Medal Awarded 98-100 Gold 94-97 Silver 90-93 Bronze The Texas Music Teachers Theory Test is administered twice a year. Scales are an important part of learning to play the piano. If you have an Apple device, there is an app called ScaleBlitzer that tracks a student's progress. The first few levels are free right now, so it is a good time to download it from iTunes (click here to save time searching) and try it out.
