This year's Christmas performance will be held at the Sunrise senior living community, located at 21939 Cinco Ranch Boulevard (very close to Ms. Combs's studio!). There is no participation fee, but please let Ms. Combs know if you will be able to perform so that she can plan the program. The recital will begin at 4:00 pm on December 12 and last approximately 45 minutes.
Sonatina Festival will be held at two locations this year. Most students will go to Kingsland Baptist Church, while a few will play at the North Katy Conservatory of Music. Students will perform one movement of a sonata or sonatina by memory for a judge and receive a written comment sheet with a rating of Very Good, Excellent, or Superior. Students may request a morning or afternoon time slot for the Festival, and will be informed of their performance time and location about two weeks before the event.
Students who are interested in participating should work with Ms. Combs to select a piece as soon as possible, and pay the $15 entry fee with October tuition. The entry fee must be paid by October 10, or the student will not be enrolled in the event. The Houston Symphony is coming to Katy for a free concert on June 9 at Morton Ranch High School. Details are on the Symphony website. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about other instruments and hear great music!
Students who are interested in learning more about playing the organ should consider attending this free Organ Recital and Workshop.
All students are requested to participate in the Studio Recital on Friday, May 1, 2015, at 5:30 pm at the following location:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1603 Norwalk Drive Katy, TX 77450 Please park on the south side of the building (the side closest to Highland Knolls Boulevard), and proceed through the south foyer into the chapel. Students should arrive fifteen minutes early, so that they can play a few notes on the piano and prepare to start promptly at 5:30 pm. The recital will be 30-45 minutes in length, with chocolate-chip cookies to follow. Please take a few moments to review proper Recital Etiquette with your family before the event. Ms. Combs is playing the piano for As Time Goes By on November 7 and 8, 2014. All lessons the first week in November are being rescheduled to accommodate the rehearsal schedule for this production. If you have not already made arrangements with Ms. Combs, please do so immediately!
The Katy Music Teachers Association Christmas Recital will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church. Students may play one Christmas piece by memory. The KMTA Spring Festival will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Houston Community College--Spring Branch.
